Mahalo to our ohana who has made this issue possible; to our printers, Trade Publishing, thank you for going the extra mile in making sure paddlers have their own publication; to our advertisers, thank you for supporting us and the paddling community; to our subscribers, thank you for showing us how much you appreciate Pacific Paddler with your annual subscriptions; to our contributors who send us paddling related stories and photos, mahalo for helping us to give paddlers a voice; to my family, thank you for your support over the past 14 years.
The economy has hit the magazine industry hard. Because of this, I started a lively debate on OCpaddler.com on my reasons for blurring out certain logos. It seems that a few feel entitled to have their logo seen in the magazine, (thank you), but not worth supporting us with an ad. If you want to read the whole back-and-forth from supporters and devils advocates, I have posted the whole discussion at pacificpaddler.com. Look for the link "to blur or not to blur".

In this issue (pg. 42), we look at why the DLNR wants to keep paddlers from finishing races inside the Ala Wai. If this might affect you, it could be time to start e-mailing everyone you know and help us to stir up the muddy waters of the Ala Wai so we can continue to finish races at Magic Island instead of beyond the reef.

I have Pacific Paddler logo tee shirts for sale and have posted some photos I took at Kanaka Ikaika's state race

I caught this photo of Keauhou Canoe Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii of the boys paddling out
for the novice training. The guys in the photo are Kyle Phillips, Mike Benacquista,
and Mark Silva — another beautiful day in paradise. Mahalos, Holly Jones

I paddle for NAC in California. This photo was taken inside the harbor mouth.
That is me on the wave. Gary Vose from NAC took the picture from a 3-man
when the big south swells hit CA. We also were the ones who broke the 6-man while
surfing the harbor mouth last month.
